COSMIQ+ SUPPORT
Tethys app is currently developed and tested with a COSMIQ+ Gen 4 dive computer running firmware 1.8.
The goal is to support COSMIQ and COSMIQ+ dive computers without relying on the discontinued Deepblu mobile application or online platform.
At the moment, I have direct access to only one COSMIQ+ hardware generation. Compatibility with other generations and firmware versions must therefore be verified using real devices.
The full Tethys app has not been publicly released yet. Some features listed on this page currently exist only in the development build.
Current compatibility
COSMIQ+ Gen 4 — tested during development
COSMIQ+ Gen 4 is the primary development and testing device for Tethys app. The current test device runs firmware 1.8.
The following functionality is working in the development build:
- Bluetooth Low Energy connection
- Communication with the dive computer
- Reading device information
- Downloading dive logs
- Parsing downloaded dive data
- Storing dive data locally
- Maintaining a local dive logbook
- Exporting dive data in UDDF, CSV and JSON formats
- Reading and changing selected settings that are not safety-critical
When a setting is changed, Tethys reads the value back from the dive computer to verify that the requested value was applied.
Settings functionality has currently been tested only with a COSMIQ+ Gen 4 running firmware 1.8. It is not yet available as part of a public Tethys release.
Other COSMIQ generations — testing needed
Tethys app may also work with other COSMIQ and COSMIQ+ hardware generations, but compatibility cannot be confirmed until the relevant functions have been tested with real devices.
Different hardware generations and firmware versions may contain differences in Bluetooth communication, available features or the protocol used to communicate with the mobile application.
A device will not be marked as supported until its essential functions have been tested successfully.
Tethys Probe
Owners of other COSMIQ generations can help without testing settings or installing the full Tethys app.
Tethys Probe is available for download. It is a separate read-only Android diagnostic application designed to collect information about COSMIQ hardware and Bluetooth communication.
Tethys Probe creates a diagnostic report that you can inspect before sharing. It does not change settings or write data to the dive computer.
A successful Tethys Probe report does not automatically mean that a device is fully supported by Tethys. Compatibility is confirmed only after the relevant connection, communication and synchronization functions have been tested.
How to identify your COSMIQ
Publicly available documentation does not provide a simple and complete mapping between every COSMIQ hardware generation and its identifying characteristics.
There are, however, several things you can check.
Firmware version
On your COSMIQ+, use the MODE button to navigate to Sync Mode.
The installed firmware version should be displayed in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
If you contact me about compatibility, the firmware version is one of the most useful pieces of information you can provide.
Original COSMIQ vs COSMIQ+
One way to distinguish the original COSMIQ from the later COSMIQ+ is the available dive mode.
The original COSMIQ used Gauge Mode.
COSMIQ+ replaced Gauge Mode with Bottom Timer Mode, which added information such as average depth and secondary time.
Identifying COSMIQ+ Gen 5
COSMIQ+ Gen 5 introduced several documented hardware and feature changes.
One of the easiest ways to distinguish it from earlier versions is dive-log capacity:
- Earlier COSMIQ and COSMIQ+ versions — up to 25 dive logs
- COSMIQ+ Gen 5 — up to 200 dive logs
Gen 5 also increased the number of freediving depth alarms from three to six.
If your COSMIQ+ can store up to 200 dives and provides six freediving depth alarms, it is a strong indication that you have a Gen 5 device.
What about Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3 and Gen 4?
This is one of the areas I am still investigating.
Deepblu publicly referred to COSMIQ+ Gen 5 as the fifth generation of the COSMIQ series, which indicates that earlier hardware revisions existed.
However, I have not yet found reliable public documentation that provides a complete mapping of Gen 1 through Gen 4 or explains exactly how an owner can distinguish each hardware revision.
I would rather leave a generation marked as unknown than publish compatibility information that has not been verified.
This is one of the reasons reports from existing COSMIQ owners are valuable.
What does “supported” mean?
A COSMIQ generation will be considered supported by Tethys when its essential functions have been tested successfully with real hardware.
This includes:
- Discovering the COSMIQ over Bluetooth
- Connecting to the device
- Establishing reliable communication
- Reading device information
- Downloading dive logs
- Correctly parsing downloaded dive data
- Reconnecting and synchronizing reliably
Individual features may still be marked as experimental while development and testing continue.
Help test another COSMIQ
Do you still own a COSMIQ or COSMIQ+?
I am looking for owners of different hardware generations who may be willing to provide device information or help test Tethys and Tethys Probe.
You do not need to be a developer or understand Bluetooth protocols.
If possible, please include:
- Your COSMIQ or COSMIQ+ model
- Hardware generation, if known
- Firmware version shown in Sync Mode
- Maximum number of dive logs the device can store
- Whether the device has Gauge Mode or Bottom Timer Mode
- Your Android phone model
- Your Android version
- A photo of the device or Sync Mode screen, if useful
Even if you do not know which generation you own, this information may help identify it.
If you would like to help, please get in touch.
Current development device
- Model: COSMIQ+

A note about Deepblu
Tethys app is an independent project.
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by Deepblu or the original COSMIQ+ manufacturer.
The purpose of Tethys app is to help COSMIQ+ owners continue using the hardware they already own after the original mobile application and online services became unavailable.
