How to Use Tethys Probe with a COSMIQ+ Dive Computer

Tethys Probe is a read-only Android diagnostic app for COSMIQ and COSMIQ+ dive computers. It was created to help identify differences between COSMIQ hardware generations and firmware versions. The main Tethys development device is a COSMIQ+ Gen 4 running firmware 1.8, so reports from other devices are especially useful. Tethys Probe reads available device information, asks a few optional questions about what appears on the COSMIQ screen and creates a text report that you can review before sharing. It does not change settings, write data to the dive computer or send anything over the internet. Before you begin You will need: a COSMIQ or COSMIQ+ dive computer; an Android phone running Android 8.0 or newer; Bluetooth enabled on the phone; the COSMIQ ready to enter Sync Mode. Tethys Probe is not a dive-planning or safety tool. Use the controls and information on your dive computer for diving decisions. 1. Download Tethys Probe Download the APK only from the o...

Can You Still Use COSMIQ+ Without Deepblu?

If you own a COSMIQ+ and the Deepblu app no longer works for you, the first question is simple: Can the dive computer still be used? In most cases, yes. The COSMIQ+ hardware did not suddenly stop being a dive computer when Deepblu disappeared. If the device itself is charged, functioning and safe to dive with, it can still be used underwater. But the full answer is more complicated, because COSMIQ+ was not only a standalone device. A large part of the experience depended on the Deepblu mobile app. The hardware still works The most important distinction is this: Deepblu disappearing did not automatically make COSMIQ+ hardware useless. The screen, buttons, sensors and dive modes are part of the device itself. Those things are not hosted on Deepblu servers. If your COSMIQ+ is physically working, it can still do what a dive computer does during a dive. That matters because it changes the problem. The issue is not that every COSMIQ+ suddenly became dead hardware. The issue is that the origi...

What Happened to Deepblu? A Timeline for COSMIQ+ Owners

If you own a COSMIQ or COSMIQ+, you probably already know that the Deepblu app no longer works as it once did. What is harder to understand is how we got here . There was no single day when COSMIQ+ suddenly stopped working. Instead, the ecosystem around it gradually disappeared: app development slowed, support became difficult to reach, Deepblu announced a server shutdown, account services stopped working, and eventually the mobile app disappeared from the major app stores. I wanted to put that timeline in one place. Before the Shutdown COSMIQ+ was designed to work closely with the Deepblu mobile app. Using Bluetooth, owners could synchronize dive logs, change computer settings and manage the device from a smartphone. Initial device registration was also connected to a Deepblu account. The computer itself could dive independently, but a significant part of the user experience depended on Deepblu's software. Why I Started Building Tethys app

I never planned to build an Android app for a dive computer. Tethys app started for a much simpler reason: I wanted to keep using the dive computer I already owned. Why I Chose COSMIQ+ When I bought my COSMIQ+ Gen 4, one of the things that attracted me to it was its simplicity. I didn't want a dive computer that required cables, special adapters, or a PC every time I wanted to manage my dives. COSMIQ+ offered something that felt modern and convenient. The dive computer connected directly to a smartphone over Bluetooth. The Deepblu app could be used to configure the device, synchronize dives, and keep a digital dive log. Dive. Get back to the surface. Connect your phone. Sync your dive. Simple. I am not a particularly frequent diver, so this workflow suited me perfectly. I didn't need complicated desktop software or an elaborate setup. My phone and my dive computer were enough. And that convenience was part of what I believed I was paying for when I bought the COSMIQ+. Then the ...
